#15 GT Blows Out Hawaii 50-14

Hawaii- The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets wanted to get off to a big start to begin the 2010 season. The #15 Yellow jackets were sent on vacation to Hawaii to battle the Warriors. Hopefully, the season rides as smooth as this trip

Georgia Tech hammered the Warriors on the defensive side with 7 sacks and 4 interceptions including 2 that were retruned for touchdowns as GT blew by Hawaii 50-14. Tech also had a big 95 yard kickoff return by Thomas to start the second half.

" This is how we wanted to start" said Josh Nesbitt who was 16-23 for 187 yards and a 2 touchdowns. He also had 39 yards rushing." Last year, myself and Dwyer spent alot of time on the bench with injuries. This year, there is no Dwyer so I must lead by example". Oh, but there is a nice replacement. Larry Cox filled the role nicely with 111 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries.

Gt's defense was the main story. Sophomre TJ Barnes picked right up where he left off with 3 sacks. Matching him was Junior LE, Jason Peters who also had 3. Captain Mario Butler had a huge interception in the 2nd quarter. He ran by 4 defenders and took it 55 yards to the house to make it 27-0 with 15 seconds left in the half. CB Deron Jasper added a 44 yard return in the 4th quarter.

Hawaii was held to just 2-9 on 3rd down conversions. Hawaii's QB, Brad Rausch was held to 250 yards on 18-32 with a touchdown and 4 interceptions. He was alos sacked 7 times which created havoc all day for the young man.

Speaking of Demaryious Thomas, he had a nice day at Wideout to go along with his 95 yard kickoff return. He had 5 catches for 79 yards. Melton had 7 catches for 78 yards and a touchdown. GT returns home next week to take on UCF.

GT Wins gator Bowl

Jacksonville FL- The #14 ranked Georgia Tech Yellowjackets maybe alittle upset over not being in the confrence championship game. However, they did coach Millhimes and there fans something to be happy about.
Tech bounced back from a sloppy first quarter to hold Rutgers scoreless for the final three quarters and capture a 38-14 win to snag the Gator Bowl. Tech traded touchdowns in the first with Rutgers early before picking up there defense.

"Im happy for our kids" said Coach Millhimes. "These kids played there hearts out to bring a trophy home to Atlanta is nice"

Josh Nesbitt played a terrific game. He was 16-27 for 228 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for 71 yards and a touchdown.

Jonathan Dwyer had 19 carries for 72 yards and 3 touchdowns. It was the third straight game Dwyer was held to under 100 yards. Melton had 7 catches for 128 yards and a touchdown for GT.

On defense, it was the play of the front 4 that made the difference. Morgan, Hall, and Walls each added a sack.

The game started crazy when Rutgers took the opening kickoff 56 yards to the GT 35. Thats where Graves caught a 35 yard touchdown pass to put Rutgers up 7-0. GT answered back when Reid took the next kickoff 85 yards to the Rutgers 3. Dwyer would score on a 2 yard run to tie it. Both teams traded touchdowns again before Rutgers QB Natalie was picked by Burnett at the GT 40 yard line. Nesbitt would then fake an option and throw a bomb to Melton who took off 50 yards for the touchdown and a 21-14 lead after one.

Midway through the 2nd, Dwyer hit the endzone again for the third time in the game and a 28-14 lead that held up to the half.

The rest of the game was pretty much ball control as GT held the ball almost double the time than Rutgers. A 3rd quarter field goal made it 31-14 and Nesbitt iced it early in the Fourth with a 22 yard touchdown run. Congrats to all the seniors this year for a job well done. Cant wait until next year. Have a great year everyone.

# 3 Notre Dame Gets Major Scare From # 17 GT

Atlanta,GA - Coach Millhimes has to be kicking himself this morning. The Yellow jackets came into this game 10 point underdogs and almost pulled off a grand upset against the #3 team on the nation. Instead, we are all singing the song " What might have been".

The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 14-0 lead and would carry the lead all game until Notre Dame running back Hughes hit the endzone with 43 seconds left to steal one in Atlanta 17-14.

After the first two quarters, the Yellow Jackets failed to score. GT, turned it over two times in the redzone. One fumble and one INT. They had 3 turnovers for the game.

You couldnt have asked for a better start. Georgia Tech took the opening kickoff and went down the field scoring a touchdown on a 7 yard run by Jonathan Dwyer to make it 7-0. Dwyer had 19 carries for 97 yards and a touchdown.

Following a ND punt, Tech once again controlled the game with the run. This time, Josh Nesbitt took it in from 3 yards out on an option to make it 14-0. Nesbitt came back early just to try to seal the deal for GT. Notre Dame struck back when Clausen hit Rodulph for a 29 yard touchdown pass to cut the lead to 14-7. GT moved the ball right back down the field but lost it at the 15 yard line of ND when Nesbitt threw a pick at the 1. GT went into halftime up 14-7.

The Third saw ND use some time off the clock and move the ball into GT terriroty for a 33 yd field goal and a 14-10 deficit. Georgia Tech would not get into ND territory again until the Fourth.

The Fourth quarter was one to watch. Tech's drive stopped at the ND 40 and they punted with 4:35 left. It would then see Notre Dame go down the field and complete three thrid down conversions and one Fourth on there way to the Hughes Touchdown. GT managed to move down the field with all three of there timeouts with 43 seconds left. They got the ball all the way to the Notre Dame 36 with 5 secodns left and no timeouts. Nesbitt went for a quick pass as time ran out and it was picked in the middle of the field.

"I was upset when it happend but you must learn from this and grow" Said Millhimes.

GT outgained ND 319-268

GT outrushed ND 152-55

ND 3rd down rate..4-8 - GT 3rd down rate..6-7

A game I should have won!
