#2 Georgia Tech Wins Sloppy Game Over VT

#2 Georgia Tech Survives #6 Virginia Tech.....#20 FSU Slams Boston College 34-12......Army's Denard Robinson struggles as 0-2 Army Meets Northwestern....Michigan's tate Forcier done For The Season?

Atlanta, GA- The defending National Champion's have a problem. They do not know who to play at Quarterback. They tried something different today and almost cost the team the season.

Coach Millhimes used sophmore Jordan Luallen at Quarterback and he threw 2 tocuhdowns and a team record 5 interceptions despite all that, Georgia Tech won the game 35-21. Luallen threw for 178 yards on 11-26 passing. "He was all over the place and tghe only thing that saved him was his feet" said Millhimes

Luallen had 144 yards rushing on 14 carries. He was the speedster that Coach Millhimes wants but has no accuracy as he over threw 4 passes in the game that Nesbitt would have connected with.

A brite spot was FB Richard Watson who ran for 102 yards and 2 total touchdowns. He ran for 1 and caught a 2 yard pass from Luallen. Roddy Jones had 41 yards rushing to add to the total.

The game was scorless after one and Georgia Tech put on a nice show in the second quarter. Watson took it in from 1 yard out on the first play of the Second quarter to make it 7-0. Next time dow, Watson added a 3 yard touchdown catch to make it 14-0. Then, the fans really erupted. All American Julian Burnett stripped Tech's Ryan Williams of the ball and DE Emmanuel Dieke picked it up and ran it back 41 yards to make it 21-0 Georgia Tech at the half.

Tech made it 28-0 in the Third when Luallen did a Play Action pass to Wideout Shaun Hill for a big 53 yard touchdown catch and run to take them to the Fourth.

The Fourth quarter is where things got messy. Luallen threw 3 picks in the quarter setting up 3 touchdowns by Virginia Tech. Sophomore Lance Richardson saved the day with a 42 yard interception return for a touchdown to give GT the win.

Georgia Tech next will visit the 12th ranked Sooners in Oklahoma.

COACHES THOUGHTS:
I basically want to start out by saying I can't imagine how we pulled that game out this week. Luallen is young but made very critical errors. I was thinking we were watching a Houston Texan meltdown. If we dont get more solid play from our Quarterback position, we will be eaten alive in the next few weeks. I mean, Oklahoma, NC State, and Alabama are our next three opponents. Not the best way to start the season but we are National Champions.

Georgia Tech, Your #1!

Cone with the game winning touchdown catch

Arizona- What a way to go out on top. Georiga Tech came in underdogs and proved to the nation that they did indeed belong in the National Title game. GT found themselves down by 31-28 with 34 seconds left when Josh Nesbitt took control and hit Thomas for a 45 yard play down to the UF 3 before hitting Cone on a 2 yard touchdown pass with 6 seconds left as #2 Georgia Tech held on with an amazing 35-31 win over #1 Florida in the National Title game.

Josh Nesbitt proved all critics wrong with an awesome performance. Nesbitt went 11-14for 178 yards and 4 touchdowns while throwing 0 interceptions.

"This is what we worked for" said Coach Millhimes while taking his Gatoraide Bath.

The game was 14-7 at the half before both teams offenses exploded in the second half.

The first half was dominated by defense. Both teams struggled to convert key third downs. The main player for the Georgia Tech team was Larry Cox. Cox had 53 yards in the first half and finished with 74. GT went on top early 7-0 when Nesbitt hit Thomas from 12 yards out.

Big runs on returns were the key to victory in this one. Jones returned a second quarter kick 75 yards to the UF 15 setting up the go ahead touchdown at the half.

The third quarter was a strong one for both offenses. Florida came out and went down the field with ease on pass plays. The cap was a Brantley to Parks 11 yard touchdown diving catch on 3rd and 4 to tie it at 14.

Parks Makes a Diving catch in the 3rd quarter

Nesbitt would answer back when he hit Thomas for a huge 33 yard touchdown pass at the end of the third to make it 21-14 GT.

The Georgia Tech defensive line was all over Brantley most of the game. They had 5 sacks and were putting him in bad situations. Florida climbed back into the scoring drive with a big conversion on a 3rd and 18 to start the 4th. They settled for a field goal to make it 21-17.

Gt would miss a golden opportunity missing a key 3rd and 2 run play. Florida would get the ball back and drive down the field with awesome passing. Brantley goes 4-4 on the drive for 58 yards and Demps takes it in from 2 yards out to give Florida a 24-21 lead with 1:30 left

Thats when all hell breaks loose. Florida kicked it into the GT endzone where Thomas had taken knee's the previous two times. Thomas gets the kickoff and brings it out and breaks 4 tackles on route to a 107 yard touchdown return and a 28-24 lead with 1:00 minute left.

To much time for Florida. UF goes down the field on 4 plays and scores when Brantley hits Thompson on a key 28 yard touchdown with 34 seconds left and retake the lead 31-28 with no hope for GT.

Nesbitt and GT takes the ball at the GT 40 and makes it happend! After a quick 11 yard pass play from Nesbitt to Jones and a timeout, Thomas does it again. Nesbitt chuncks up a pass with man to man coverage and Thomas catches it at the UF 3 yard line. Nesbitt then hit Cone from 2 yards out to take the lead for GT with 6 seconds left.

GT does a pooch kick to the UF 45 yard line. Florida tries to make something happend but cant and it gives them 3 seconds left. Brantley goes back for a Hail Mary to end the game and is sacked by Walls to end the game and the fans errupt.

Brantley finished the game 19-22 for 267 yards and 2 touchdowns. Demps went for 80 yards and 2 TD's on 20 Attempts.

Thomas finished the game with 4 receptions for 90 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Good thing GT won the National Title game this year. 22 Seniors on this team including Nesbitt, Thomas, Cox, and most of there Secondary. Once again, thank you for following the National Champions. The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

See you next year!

#1 GT Survives In OT Over Rival #25 Georgia

#1 GT survives Scare with 40-34 win over #25 Georgia.......#6 Michigan Beats Ohio St 35-28........Mississippi St beats Ole Miss 36-21......#2 Florida hangs on for a tough 21-17 win over #15 Florida St.........#7 Notre Dame hopes to bounce back with a win over #23 USC.....

Atlanta GA- The Rival game every year between Georgia Tech and Georgia seems to never left any down. GT managed an thriller last year to win on a last second field goal. This year was yet another barn burner except this one was like watching to teams trying to lose?

Georgia Tech rallied from 10 down and overcame 4 turnovers including a key one in the 4th to knock off #25 Georgia . Bulldogs QB, Gray threw 2 Touchdown passes and 4 Interceptions. Two of those picks were to Cooper Taylor.

The other big story in this one was the play of LE Jason Peters. Peters finished the game with 7 tackles and 5 SACKS!! 2 of those came in the OT period as Georgia faced a 4th and 25.

Josh Nesbitt struggled most of the first half before settling down and throwing for 285 yards and 3 touchdowns. Thats included the game winning touchdown in the first overtime to Thomas for 13 yards out to give Georgia Tech a run of the regular season table 12-0(8-0).

Larry Cox had a case of the fumbles as well. He had 93 yards and 3 touchdowns on 22 carries but almost gave the game away in the 4th. He fumlbed in the 2nd quarter then the 4th was really a back breaker. GT was driving with under 1 minute left at the Georgia 29 yard line. On 3rd and 1, Cox got the handoff and dropped the ball after being gang tackled. The Bulldogs recovered and sat on it to the end the 4th.

Thomas once again had a fantastic game. He had 11 catches for 161 yards and 2 touchdowns in his final home game.

It was 7-3 midway through the Second quarter when Avery green caught a 19 yard touchdown pass for the Bulldogs to make it 10-7. After the Cox fumble at the GT 30. The Bulldogs punched it in and took a nice 17-7 lead. Nesbitt would hit Thomas for a 15 yard touchdown catch just before half to make it 17-14 Georgia.

On the first series for GT, Josh Nesbitt lost a fumble on a QB scramble and it was returned for a touchdown to make it 24-14 Georgia. GT would answer with a Touchdown run by Cox then intercept Gray and set up yet another Touchdown run by Cox. They would miss a critical extra point and would led 27-24. Georgia would tie it at 27 with a field goal to end the third.

The Fourth saw both teams trade possessions before Nesbitt hit Cone for a 4 yard touchdown pass with 3:12 left. Georgia answered with a Gray to White 21 yard touchdown pass to tie it back up with 2 minutes left.

Bottom Line, GT was lucky in this one. If this was Notre Dame, Florida, or Army for that matter it would be a loss. The ACC title game is coming and a rematch of last years game in Florida with Florida St and GT. Florida St won by a touchdown last year after Nesbitt was knocked out of the game. Coach Millhimes and the Yellow Jackets are hoping for a different outcome this year.

Vegas Dream Match Set

#1 GT set to face # ND.....#2 Florida over Miss. St 38-13......#7 Michigan slips by #25 Wisconson 38-37...#8 LSU all over Ole Miss 54-7....#10 OU over Baylor 26-14.....Who Will Coach Amp Hire as DC? Stay tuned for Sportscenter after the game to find out

For those of you living in a cave. Well lets face it, even you have heard about this game. The #1 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have become the new model for " America's Team". They started the season ranked #18 and have since climbed the ladder to gain the #1 spot in the country. They have won Coastal ACC Title and are looking at something alot bigger.

The #3 Notre Dame Fighting Irish have been hanging around the top of the CFB now for the last two years. Jimmy Clausen has had his team very close to a National title and this year is no exception.

This weekend's battle between these two teams will likely decide who plays Florida in January. Now, its hard for some of us to be on a bias level here so what we did was previewed a few positions and matchups to watch...

Notre Dame Stadium..Nov 13

#1 Georgia Tech
vs #3 Notre Dame
vs
Nesbitt- 2,641 Yds, 27 TD, 5 INT vs Clausen- 3,291 Yds,38 TD, 9 INT

ADVANTAGE- ND. Yes, this is a dream matchup for fans all around College Football world and Vegas for that matter. Jimmy Clausen and Josh Nesbitt are two of the top three running for the Heisman this year and likely a spot as the #1 Overall Draft Pick next year. Both Qb's have not lost a game but the difference is that Clausen has seen this pressure before while Nesbitt has not. Nesbitt will win the battle if it comes own to running but Clausen leads the CFB with 38 TD passes. I it comes down to arm, Clausen Wins.

Here are a few other positions that will determine the outcome of this one.

RUSHING

ADVANTAGE- GT. Notre Dame will be without Freshman Cierre Wood is nursing an injury. They have Sophmore Jonas Gray to fill in. His 667 yards and 10 touchdowns lead the way for the Irish. On the other side, you have Lucas Cox who returns after missing some time for an injury. Cox missed 2 1/2 games and still leads the team with 914 yards and 7 touchdowns. Nesbitt is the key factor as he has 640 yards and a team leading 13 touchdowns on the ground. Last but not least is Roddy Jones who has not seen many carries this year but could be a wildcard. His 5.1 average on 27 carries should not be overlooked.

Wideouts and TE

ADAVANTAGE-ND. Kyle Rudolph and Michael Floyd lead the team in recieving and Touchdowns. This Tight End and WR will likely be drawing alot of attention from the GT secondary. GT has Tyler Melton and Demaryius Thomas to lead there staff. Although Thomas and Melton do have the athletic ability to make a difference, they are way to small and have double digit drops.

Offensive Line

ADVANTAGE-GT. Clausen has been sacked 23 times while Nesbitt has gone down but 13 times. Nesbitt may have quick feet that helps him but the GT offensive line may be the difference as they run block almost every play and are use to physical contact.

Defensive Line

ADVANTAGE- GT. Hard to argue this one when GT has Jason Peters with 17 sacks and TJ Barnes with 10. These guys couldleave school early but coach Millhimes hopes they stick around. Peters has 27 TFL's as well. ND has Kapron Moore leading the way with 10 sacks. ND better hope they can keep pressure on Nesbitt or the GT Qb could put up monster numbers.

Secondary

ADVANTAGE- GT. GT has a great secondary and they will need it against Clausen. Team Captain Mario Butler has 7 INT's to lead the leauge and has 3 of those returned for TD's. Clausen best avoid him. On the other side of the field is Deron Jasper who has 4 INT's and 3 of those went to the house. very scary CB's. SS Mario Edwards leads the team with 55 Tackles. Notre Dame Corner Robert Blanton has 4 INT's to lead the team and has taken 2 the distance. Nesbitt will most likely avoid this player unless its 1 on 1 with Thomas. Tortan SMith leads the team with 55 tackles and will likely have a huge add to that with the GT running game.

Coaching

ADAVANTAGE- ND Coach Daz has been a round for sometime now. He as hsitory with Alabama and can hang with the best. He has been hanging around the TOP 10 the past couple of years and has dominated Michigan the past few seasons. The guy can make a ** QB into a star overnight. Coach Millhimes is in his second year as coach of GT and is showing progress. He lost Dwyer from a year ago and still runs a mean Option that can hurt the best. If Millhimes hopes to pull out a wildcard and slow this offense down, he better get to Clausen early and hit hard.
